Carl Rogers was one of the most influential American psychologists. He developed Humanist psychotherapy from the 1940s. Besides the theoretical and practical developments of psychotherapy, he had the constant concern of scientifically validating his concepts and results. Carl Rogers was the first university psychotherapist to use recordings of psychotherapy sessions for scientific research. The paradigm of his theory has evolved and has been defined as person-centered psychotherapy. After spending more than thirty-five years in individual and group psychotherapy, he turned his attention to education and politics. Carl Rogers has greatly influenced the practice of helping relationships and the accompanying professions, in the fields of health, education, pedagogy, mediation, social psychology and of course modern psychotherapy. Shortly before his death, following his interventions in favor of the peace process, notably in Costa Rica and South Africa, Carl Rogers had been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize. His thought and action continue to be a source of inspiration for many people and associations around the world today.
